Vennell, Esq. "'HE objects and intentions which the proposed A Company have in view, are forthwith to purchase the screw steamers IVunga tVunga and &tor m Bird, the coal hulk Caledonia, and all Stores belonging to the Steam Navigation Company ■ to procure a steam vessel of light draught of water, adapted for entering such rivers as the Wairau, the Sumner, the manawatu, &c. And also, as early as practicable, to purchase a Steam Vessel of sufficient tonnage, steam power, and cabin accommadation as will enable the Company to maintain rapid and regular communication between Cook's strait, Auckland, and Dunedin, and the several intermediate ports. It is further pro. posed always to keep in view the importance of making such arrangements as will ensure the gradual but certain expansion of the Company's operations. The termination of the Wellington Steam Navigation Company by effluxion of time, and the encouraging success which has attended its working; the important benefits it has been the means of conferring upon this and the other ports of New Zealand, by supplying the means of quick and regular and quick communication) have led the promoters of the projected company to ask their fellow colonists to unite with them in forming a Company on a large basis, not confined as the preceeding one was to purely local traffic, but one with more general views and objects, to he called the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company (limited.) The present time appears to be a most favorable opportunity for inaugurating a Company having such views ; as there is every reason to believe, that throughout the whole Colony we are on the eve of important events, that population and trade is rapidly on tho increase. The Company entertain no doubt that they will very soon be in a position to tender to perform some portion of the Inter-Provincial 'Mail Service — and it is believed that the General Government and the various Provincial authorities would readily avail themselves of the services of steam vessels owned by a New Zealand proprietary, and directed by local, energetic, and responsible management. The great success of the various Australian Steam Companies leaves little doubt, that similar results will be secured by a New Zealand Steam Company, established on a broad and permanent basts, susceptible of expansion, with a view to meet the requirements of that prosperous future, which it is believed will certainly and shortly he realised in New Zealand. It is consequently proposed, that an Associatio should be formed, having a Capital of £50,000 (with power to increase it) in shares of ft' lo each, and the co-operation and assistance of settlers throughout the Colony is invited. A considerable number of shares will be reserved for allotment for persons residing in the neighbouring Provinces. The Balance Sheet of the Company will be made up every half year — say on the Ist September and Ist March of each year — and a copy forwarded to each Shareholder. The qualification for voting at the election of the first Board of Directors, shall be the payment of the first call, say oi £2 10s. per share. Shareholders to be allowed to vote by Proxy. Any persons holding Twenty-five Shares shall be eligible as a Candidate for the Board of Directors.
