He said that the gentleman referred to, had been editor of the Maori Messenger for 12| years, and had been summarily discharged. Mr STAFFORD would not oppose the motion on the principle that evory case deserved a hearing. He did not know in what capacity the relations had acted for the previous nine years, but from 1857 to 1860, he was not the Editor at all. During the latter period he merely furnished two columns, in each issue of commercial matters, for which he received 4>loo per annum. Mr. Burn never even saw a leading article , and had not the function of selection, The Hon. Mr. DILLON BELL would be sorry if the Private Grievance Committe, should be prejudiced by the remarks of the lest Bpeaker. Mr. STAFFORD, knew that what he had stated wa3 actually the ease, but he did not wish to influence the opinions of the Committee. Motion agreed to,
