LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

Coltons American Atlas of the World. — We have just had the pleasure of examining an atlas brought under our notice by Mr. H. Babbit, the agent for Messrs. Colton & Co.* of New York, who is at present in Wellington taking orders for it ; and we have no hesitation in saying, that the get up of the work, both as regard Maps and typography is excellent.

Mr. Hall's Entertainment. — A third of those mirth provoking performances was given on Thursday evening in the Odd Fellows' Hall, when a highly respectable audience were present. The impersonations were again highly successful, and the spectators testified their appreciation and delight with repeated bursts of applause. The latter part of the erening'g amusement, where Mr. Hall appears in nearly a score of different characters, in his ''magic picture frame* was a perfect triumph of neat actirg and mechanical ingenuity. The mode adopted to produce the effect, we cannot exactly explain, further thau that a large richly gilt frame is fixed in the middle of the screen at the back of the stage : the room is partially darkened, and just as the spectators are wondering what is to come next, in an instant by a change so quick as almost to be imperceptible, the before vacant spate is filled up and th 6 eye cannot distinguish the slightest difference between the living reality and the appearance of a real picture, until the apparent artist's creation begins, to troll for a sidesplitting soliloquy, followed by some intensely comic song. The changes were each effected in a few seconds, and after numerous impersonations, the performances, were brought to a close quite theatrically amidst red fire, with Mr. Hall filling up the picture, as a striking likeness of Her Majesty the Queen, in which character the National Anthem was delivered to the up standing audience with much taste and effect.

The Imported DEER.—Tbe Buck and Doe which arrived per "Triton" from England nearly two months ago, are at present lodged in an out building at Piimmer's Wharf, where they have remaiued ever since their arrival, We are under the impression that those animals were brought out for the important purpose of beinip acclimatized, and thus heiping to stock the Island with one of the higher classes of game, but we hardly think that object will be carried out if they are allowed to remain in their present quarters. . Very likely the present i\Tinistry are adopting the policy of Irresponsibility, towaidi Deer, as well as Natives. -
