M. L. C.

Wk have seldom if ever read twenty lines in which

j ' Hate's yoll, and envy's hiss, and folly's bray * are more strongly concentrated than in the sub-leader of the Advertiser of Wednesday, in reference to a statement which t makes relative to the calling Mr. Hunter and Mr. Stokes to the Legislative Council. Our cotemporary should have ascertained whether his statement was true before venting his indignation, as it may possibly turn out that the disgust of " the sincere hearted man " who wrote it has been oallad forth unuecessariiy — indeed we may state positively that those gentlemen have uot been " pitchforked into the Upper House." It is generally understood, however, that one of them will be called to that Assembly to represent this Province in conjunction with Mr. Johnston aud Mr. Crawford, and it is not improbable that a fourth nomination will be made some time or other in the course of the Session ; but whether as a " reward. for political perfidy," as an " acknowledgment for thick and thin support," or as a " bribe forfuture silence," we leave it to our cotemporary then to say— sinoe one o/ these three reasons must, according to his amcable view, account for any possible appointment that can be made by any Ministry, at the head of whom is the gentleman to whose glorification the "sincere hearted " editor of the Advertiser at one time offered up daily incense.
