ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

« To the Editor of the Wellington Independent Wellington, 4th July, 1862. Sib,— l have noticed a letter and description in the New Zealand Advertiser, of the 2nd July, referring to the wreck of the White Swan. In justice to myself (as her late captain) upon whom the main responsibility of the accident obviously remains, and the blame of its consequences seems in that letter necessary to attach. have the honour to ask — nay, in simple justice — I have the right to request, that the public will generously suspend their verdict in the matter, until the result of the investigation I have challenged shall have been declared. I am. Sir, Your's faithfully, Allen A. Harper, Late Master of the s.s. White Swan.
