WELLINGTON ATHENAEUM.

. A General Meeting of the members took place on Tuesday evening, the 6th inst. for the purpose of electing 1 officers for the ensuing year, George Hart, Esq., in the chair. Tiie Secretary read the following report : — Tlte committee are sorry that they cir - not present a very satisfactory account of the affairs of the Institute. As the amount of the debt has been increased since January 1, 1861 about £10, the amount then due being £70, and now amounts to £80; the reason it has done so is, that the repairs which had to be effected to keep the bnilding from rapid decay, amounted to £100, whereas the subscriptions received to defray them amounted to only £72, leaving a deficiency of £28 to t.e made up, which has been done, thus showing that had it not been for the repairs, the Institute would have reduced its debt, £18 instead of increasing it. The Committee during the past year have added £16 worth of hooks to the library. During the season, there were seven lectures de* liveve:!, with a fair attendance at them. There were also two Conversaziones held in the Oiitl Fellow's Hall, both of which passed off very well. It is the opinion of the Committee that tbe prospects of tbe Institute are sligbtly improved, the building is now in a fair state of repair, and will not require much expense tins next year. / The Roportwas unanimously .a lopted.
