By the Airedale, we have received papers from his province up to th 20th Inst. The election of a member to represent the Akaroa District in the House ofßepresentatives took place on the 13th Inst., and resulted in he election of Mr. A. E, White, the numbers for either candidate being at the close of the poll being White 51, Moorhouse 32, majority for White, 19. We observe that Mr. Wakefield was a candidate for the Heathcote District, contesting the seat with Mr. G. W. Hall. The declaration of the poll took place on the 14th Inst., when the Returning officer officially notified that there were 94 votes for Hall, and. 35 for Wakefield, and declared the former to be duly elected a member of the House of Representatives for the Heathcote District.
The races came off on Feb. 5, 6 and 7. The Challenge Cup was won by Mr. Stafford's Ultima, Mr. Wakefield's Gipsy second ; the Ladies Purse by Mr. Bedwood's Wetsail, Mr. Stafford's Ultima second; . the Metropolitan Plate by Mr. Minchih's Cassandra, Mr. Stafford's Ultima second; and the Queen's plate by Mr. Redwood's Wetsail, ffhich walked over the course.
