TAKING CARE OP FARMS IN TIME OP EMERGENCY WOMEN OFFER TO HELP “When farmers who are members of either the Home Guard or tho E.P.S. organisations walk out of tho front gate to do their duty they may be away from their farms for many days or weeks.” This is‘the position envisaged by women in the Morrinsville district, and at the last meeting of the branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union it was decided to establish a “farmers’ aid section,” and to suggest that it be brought under the E.P.S. organisation in order to have the official backing of the regulations. The chief warden at Morrinsville, it was stated, was agreeable to this course. In particularising the class of work that could be undertaken by women in a temporary emergency, special stress was placed on the milking and feeding of dairy cows. The secretary of the branch stated that the scheme was being enthusiastically supported in Morrinsville. It was resolved at the last executive meeting in Auckland to refer the matter to the Southern Thames conference with a view tc the incorporation of any recommendations they may make to the provincial conference of the union in May.
