WAIHI CYCLE CLUB'S ENTERPRISE KEEN CONTESTS A. MOFFAT WINS THREE EVENTS The recent efforts of the Waihi Cycle Club to resuscitate sports gatherings in Waihi proved eminently successful on Saturday, when a very line programme, comprising cycling, chopping and running events, was

enjoyed by a very large attendance of the public. Keen contests result-

ed in the various events, and much

interest was manifested in the chopping division. A Moffat, Waihi’s

promising young cyclist, was successful in annexing three firsts —the local mile, open mile and two miles, The 100 yards handicap attracted good fields, the final being won in excellent time by W. Porter. A loud speaker was installed on the ground, giving the president, Mr S. Birse, an opportunity to control the various events, and which added considerably to the general organisation. During an interval, occasion was taken by the Hon. E. Dye to present | the various cups and trophies to the j respective winners. Mr Dye made j special reference to the fine performance of A. Moffat in the cycling events and to the winner of the 100 yards handicap, Mr Porter. He congratulated the officials of the club on the success of the meeting and on their enterprise in organising the sports gathering. Appreciation of the help given to the club by way of donations and trophies by the business people of the town was also expressed by the speaker. The officials in charge of the meeting were as follows: —President, Mr S. Birse; treasurer, Mr E. Furey; timekeeper, Mr E. Dye; starter, Mr D. Fahey; lap steward, Mr J.
