London, August 27. The House of Lords l'ead a third time to-day the Deceased's Wife's Stater Bill by 98 to 54.

Tlift Archbishop of Canterbury, wliilo stating that -the clergy would do their best to onsure the smooth working of the Act, remarked that it was the first time in the Church of England's history that the law of the State was being brought into direct contradiction to the law of the Church.
