SYRIAN TROUBLE SETTLED

LONDON, July 22. The French are occupying Aleppo in order to guarantee that Feisal carries out the terms accepted. It is understood the French are proceeding with the occupation of various points on tie railway lino in Syria, with the object of safeguarding communications with northern ports. They ..also occupy Aleppo, which is regarded as the centre of anti-Faluch intrigues. A Beyrout message states that General Gourand issued a proclamation to the Syrians, inviting them to join the French in bringing the extremists to reason, declaring that France would use moderation, but would not tolerate an attack on the French or other Christians. Failing compliance with the appeal, the proclamation threatens energetic measures. BRITAIN'S OBLIGATIONS. LONDON, July 29. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Mr Cecil Harmsworth said Britain was under no obligation to cooperate with France in the event of military operations against the Arabs in Syria.
