TEACHERS’ APPEALS

SITTING OF AUCKLAND BOARD. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 24. The Auckland Teachers’ Appeal Board has allowed 23 out of 162 appeals against their positions on the grading list, involving reduced salaries. Mr J. Caughey, Assistant Director of Education, has explained that the extent and redistribution of the reduction were left entirely to discretion of Auckland inspectors, and the Department recorded the result exactly as supplied by them. Where appeals were successful, the appellants had brought forward evidence that their efficiency had increased to a greater extent than that which had been recognised by the inspectors, or that some circumstances or facts nad not Been known to the inspectors at the time of grading. Practically all decisions of the Board were unanimous.
