TENNIS

ST, JOHN’S CLUB, A committee meeting of the above club was held on Monday evening last, when there was a good attendance. The following new members were elected:—Misses Do Lwn and Vine, Messrs Melody, Cook©, Jones, McLaughlin, Tawhiwi, Siddells, Talboye, McDonald, and Grath. Miss Harris and Mir Cooke were elected inembers of the committee, and Mr Wollams was elected hon. treasurer.

It was unanimously decided to asphalt the courts, and a committee consisting of Messrs A, Bland, F. Wagstaff, H. Holland, M. I.ampe, A. Lane, and P. Rnss were deputed to deal with the matter.

Next Saturday is to be ladies’ day, when three courts will be reserved for singles (ladies’ matches), end the remaining four courts for generl play. The Match Committee arranged the ladder in Ihe following order:—

It was reported that the attendance was good on Thursday and Saturday last. GONYILLE TENNIS CLUB. Saturday last proved an ideal day for tennis, there being between 30 and 40 players on the courts during the afternoon. Afternoon tea, provided by the Misses Davey and Tilley, was much enjoyed. A noticeable feature is the increasing number of enthusiasts who play both morning and evening. It has been decided to hold a match, Captain v. YiceCaptajsn, on Saturday next, commencing at 2 p.m. The game will occupy three courts, the fourth being left for open play. The following have been chosen: Captain.—Ladies: Mrs R. Barker, Misses 0.
