ASSOCIATION REVIVED
At the adjourned meeting of South African Veterans, held in the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday evening, the following members of various New Zealand and other regiments answered the roll call:—Lieut. G. Georgetti, Bth; Corpl. A. T. Humphreys, 7th; H. A. Christiensen, 7th. Corp. Griffiths was voted to the chair. On the motion of Corp. ,1. Evans, seconded by Driver W. J. Brown, it was unanimously decided that an association be formed, and that all South African men not present be asked to send in their names and regiments to the secretary as soon as possible. Tiie following officers were elected: President, G. G. Bullock; vice-presi-dents, J. Georgetti, C. E. Griffiths, W. Burr, A. T. Humphreys, Pennefather, K. Malcolm, H. V. Duigan; secretary and treasurer, F, C. Fisher; committee, C. E. Griffiths (chairman), A. Edwards, J. E. Henderson, J. Bruce, F. W. Jones, F. W. Mullen, A. J. Rusdeu, D. Corby, J. Evans. The annual subscription was fixed at ss. It was decided to hold a social function on Monday, November 18, when opportunity will be taken to farewell old comrades going to the present wav, and to welcome those returning, the committee to arrange-details. The committee will hold a meeting on Monday night next, 11th inst., at 7.30 p.m., in the Druids’ Hall.
In regard to peace celebrations, it was resolved that on the day hostilities cease South African men will assemble at the rear of His Majesty's Theatre la order to take part in the procession.
Several matters of interest to South African men were mentioned by the chairman and were discussed by the meeting, particular emphasis being laid on tho need for pressing for the same privileges to South African men as were given to Maori War veterans and soldiers in the present war.The following resolution was unanimously carried:—“ That, in view of the probable early repatriation of our soldiers, this Association urges upon the Government the necessity for taking timely .stops to ensure their proper transport in order to prevent such regrettable cases as that of the troopship Britannic at the end of the South African War, and that, in particular, the overcrowding of transports he strictly guarded against, notwithstanding any extra expense such a policy may entail.” Copies of the resolution are to he forwarded to the Premier and to tbs Minister of Defence.
