AMUSEMENTS & MEETINGS.

THE GRAND THEATRE. “THE FATAL RING." What is considered by critics to be the best serial picture now being eacwn in the Dominion will be hrougnt forward at the Grand to-night m the hist episode of “The Fatal Ring." This picture features Pearl White, who will be remembered for her performance in the “Iron Claw." It contains astounding feats in the air, on the land, in the ocean—head-on motor smashes, a dive over a precipice, an aeroplane smashing to earth at 50 miles an hour, and countless other whirlwind happenings, are packed into this wonderful serial. Another attraction will be the return of that sterling actor, Wm. S. Hart, in “The Patriot.” FRENCH VAUDEVILLE. The inimitable Henri French and his favourite company are paying another visit to Wanganui, and will make their appearance at the Opera House on November 9th and 11th. Henri French has been a favourite wherever he has appeared, and since his last visit here he hae played to remarkable business all over Australia. HOT SCOUT CAMP. In connection with the United Boy Scout Camp to he held at Christmas a hearty and enthusiastic meeting of the ladies interested in the movement was held in Trinity Parlour yesterday afternoon. The' Provincial Secretary (Chaplain David Campbell) occupied the chair, and explained to the ladles that apart from the local troops, Scoute were coming in from Rangataua, Mangaweka. Hunterville, Rewa, Shannon, Palmerston, Bulls, Feilding, Marton and other jdaces. Some of the lads had never been in a train, and had never seen the sea, and many of them had no idea of what it meant to visit a town the size of Wanganui, and it waa felt by the executive, that if it were possible, the visitors should be received and treated as guests of the citizens of Wanganui, and that the camps should be free to all registered troops. After a general discussion it was unanimously agreed that a committee be formed to canvas the town and district, and the ladies were provided with the necessary forms to record thereon their gifts of cash or kind received or promised. To feed and entertain 250 boys for ten days is no small undertaking, but as tliG Scouts of this town jbu&vo freely assisted in all patriotic efforts when called upon, it is confidently anticipated that the lady canvassers will meet with a hearty and liberal response to their appeal on behalf of the lads. In our issue of Saturday last it was notified that Fairbum and Silk would be pleased to receive and acknowledge contributions, hut that should have neld hairburn and Co., 53 Victoria Avenue, and it is pleasing to report that the first .oad of firewood has already come tc hand, and further, both the local freezing works will be pleased to receive, kill and store until needed any sheep .hat may be forwarded, ear-marked for the Boy Scout Christmas Camp The Rev David Campbell, 'phone 840 will be glad to supply all particulars and also receive and acknowledge gifts or contributions. s ®
