AFTER A WARDER.

PECULIAR AFFAIR IN THE WAIKATO. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, April 16. A sensational shooting affair its reported from Te Awanmtu. It appears that, about 7 o'clock last night a man was seen prowling around the Waikereia prison by a native prisoner. The latter approached the man, who threatened him with two revolvers if he approached aiiy nearer. He informed the native that he was not after him, but was after one of the warders, after which he again came out in search of the man, who is alleged to liave tired at him with a revolver and disappeared into the scrub and the darkness. Search was made by the wardens, but so far without .•success. The police are now scouring the district for the man, who is believed te be an ex-prisoner;-
