ASSESSMENT COURT.

SMALL NUMBER OF OBJECTIONS. A sitting of the Assessment Court was held this morning, Mr Hewitt, "S.M. 3 presiding. When several caees were called, there was no appearance of the objectors, and the valuations made were consequently sustained. TOO LATE. / W. A. Izard objected to the valuation of .£3OO on a property in Rklgway Street. The Borough Valuer (Mr J. P. Watt) said Mr Izard had failed to comply with the requirements of the Statute, and had failed to give notice of his objection to the Borough Council. Mr Izard said he would ask that tiie objection should be waived. The tinw for lodging an objection had expired during "the Easter holidays. A similar objection had been waived in the case of the Public Trustee, representing the Stewart Bequest. Mr Watt said he could not agree. Mr Izard was a solicitor, and he was a layman. He could not comply with the request. Mr Izard: I will ask the Court t« note a similar objection was w*aived. His Worship said Mr Watt was acting within his rights. He was afraid th# objection would have to statfd over until next year. Mr Izard said he was sorry Mr Wat* would not meet him. It looked as if ha was not sure of his case, and of th* valuation made. The valuation was sustained.

SOLDIERS' CLUB PROPERTY. Messr.s L. D. Nathan aud Co., Auckland, objected to the valuation of £sb on their property in Taupo Quay, no* ueed a* the Soldiers' Club. Mr Horsley said the objectors held a'Harbour Board lease of 42 years, and the building had been let at the lowest possible rental. Mr Watt contended that the valuation was vew liberal treatment. He wae aware of the purposes the building was let for. but it/was not for the Borough Council to take into consideration any patriotic view. If Nathan and Co. were moved by a patriotic desire they should not ask the Borough Council to assist thpm. The valuation wae sustained.
