Miss Mavis Balmer,. the holder of a Junior National Scholarship at the Wanganui Girls' College, has been granted an extension of one year, on the recommendation of the Wanganui Education Board. At last night's meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board a resolution of sympathy was passed with Mr T. A. Bainber, a member of the board, in hio recent sad bereavefent. Judges of the Native Land Court have been appointed to the following districts:—Akaroa and South Island, Judge }?. N. Jono#; Waikato-Maniapoto, J.udge C. E. MacCormick; Aotea, Judge J. W. Browne; Tairawhiti, Judge M. Gilfedder; Tokerau, *udge A. G. Holland; Waiatiki, Judge T. H. Wilson. Tto appointments take effect as. from Wednesday of this week. Mr N. Meuli, an old and respected member of the Wanganui Harbour Board, has been in indifferent health of late, and coneequently did not seek re-election on that body- Lwt evening Mr Meuli, through the chairman (Mr J. B. Murray), expressed his sorrow at having to sever his connection, with the Board. For the past six years hie work had been a labour of love. He was pleased to see all the old members returned, and said that that fact showed that the public was satisfied with the way in which their affaire had been looked after. He was also pleased to see that his seat had been filled by such a capable man ae Mr Allam Uobinson. Mr Ba=eett moved a motion to the effect that the Board place on recced appreciation of the ahle services rend«r«d by Mr Meuli, and that regret be expressed that his health had prevented him from again taking-hi* seat at the Board meetings. Also that it was hoped Mr Meuli would be speedily returned to health. The motion wujs carried unanimously, other members speaking in high terms of Mr Meuli's services.
