LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The annual meeting of the Wangamii Agricultural Association will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at 2.30 p.m., at the Wanganui Meat Freezing Company's board room in St. Hill Street.

In connection with the Pa tea Harbour Board elections, Mc-sth C. I. Dickie and F. W. Grainger, who were nominated. yCvSterday to represent the Waverley Riding, have been elected unopposed. A pavilion, beautifully, designed, is being erected at the Wanganui Collegiate sports grounds by Mr J, Allen, one of the masters, in memory of his brother and Mr Butterworth, who have made the supreme sacrifice at the war. Fire destroyed "Fordell House" last evening. The house stood on the site of the late Mr Henry Sarjeant's old homestead at Fordell. Fordell Farm is now in possession of Mr G.TI. Handley, whose manager (Mr Poingestre) occupied tho house.

The Telegraph Department advises that a censorship has been established by Hie United States. The present restrictions on cable messages will remain in force with the following additions: Messages to Panama must be in plain English or in one of the authorised codes; messages for Philippine Islands or Hawaii must be in plain English only; code addresses not permitted; paid se-rvice messages requesting information about cable massages to or from Hawaii are not to be accepted.

The Garrison Band and the National Reserve will meet at the Drill Hall at 4 o'clock to-morrow (Thursday) afternoon to give a send-off to the 29th Reinforcements. The Queen's Park School bugle band will meet the Main Trunk quota at the railway station on-- the arrival of the 1.1.0 p.m. train, and escort them to the Drill Hall. Tho Patriotic Association will entertain the men at afternoon tea, and the Lady Liverpol committee will issue parcels, of comforts to the members of the draft at the Drill Hall at 3.30 p.m. The Dannevirkc newspaper has been thrown into a state of excitement by hearing that Count Bornstorff, the lateGerman Ambassador at Washington, was at one time a resident of Dannevirke, and was for a time the guest of Mr F. G. Cotwper. At that time he was known as Baron Ernst. The gentleman "had a most persuasive manner, and was. an adeot lady's man. He had a charming way of conversing with ladies, and foe had a way of acquiring information from them that in the light of after events was particularly subtle." The Postal Department have been advised that all mails carried by the b.b. Rotorua, which was torpedoed, were safely landed at Plymouth. The Postal Department draw attention that the maximum weight for parcels addressed to soldiers on active service has been reduced to 71bs.

The Telegraph Department advises that Bromhall's code will not be accepted in cablo messages for Panama. Code addresses are not permitted in messages for Porto Rico.
