PAY OF JUNIOR OFFICERS.

LONG-STANDING GRIEVANCE REMOVED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 27. A grievance of long standing has been removed by the decision of the Defence Department to increase by 2s per day the pay of second-lieutenants in the Expeditionary Force. The position of second-lieutenants has been, anomalous owing to the fact that in the case of married men they are often worse off financially than their own non-commis-sioned officers. ,The addition now made to the pay will considerably improve the position of junior 'officers.
