Amusements, Meetings, etc.

OPERA HOUSE. To-night, the Royal Pictures will screen the usual Saturday night change at tho Opera House, when a great drama, “The Cruise of the Hell Ship," one that grips the attention from start to finish, will form the leading attraction. “Love and Gasoline,” ono of the best of the famous Keystone Company’s productions, is sure to be a source of unbounded merriment. “Sport and Travel in India,” and “Bathing Scenes in New York,” will give that interest which always attaches to peeps of other countries, and the remainder of the programme, in which drama and coriiedy is judiciously and happily blendid, will suit all tastes. The admission charges are well known, and as Saturday is always a popular night at tho Opera House, there should be a large attendance. Tho management draw attention to tho fact that they will show at the Empress Theatre all next week. JULIUS KNIGHT’S FAREWELL. “A ROYAL DIVORCE” AND “MONSIEUR BEAU CAERE.” “A Royal Divorce” and “Monsieur Beaucaire” are unquestionably two of the best and most popular pieces in the brilliant and successful repertoire of Mr Julius Knight, and it is therefore no; surprising that playgoers are taking keen interest, in the production of these piece:! at tho Opera House on Tuesday and Wednesday next. It was Julius Knight’s,represei>htion of Napoleon- in the first named drama, and of the gallant Frenen prince in Booth Tarkiugton’s famous romance, that made this popular actor's name a household word amongst playgoers of New Zealand ami Australia, and the J. C. Wiliamson Ltd. management will doubtless witness tho local theatre packed on both evenings, particularly as tho coming season will mark Mr Knight’s appearances here, prior to his departure for Europe. Mr Knight will be supported by a powerful combination of artists, including Miss Irene Browne, who will appear as Josephine in “A Royal Divorce,” and as Lady Mary in sieur Beaucaire.” In “A Royal Divorce” there are several tableaux representing “The Retreat from Moscow,” the first intimation of the sotting of Napoleon s star, and the Enuieror exhorting hia Old Guard to make' their last desperate attack on Waterloo, tho charge of tho British, and the destruction of his hones and the lonely exile on the rock at St. Helena. The famous salon at Fontainebleif and the garden of the Tulleries, on the road to Waterloo and Napoleon on board the British warship looking his last on tho England he would never conquer, arc all faithfully depicted. Ihe remarkable loyalty of Josephine is demonstrated to a degree when she bogs the English Admiral to allow her to accompany Napoleon to St. Helena, Tho whole of the production will be staged with now and magnificent scenery, dresses and properties.
