The annual Synod of the TaranakiWanganui district of the Methodist Church commenced at New Plymouth on Tuesday, when there were about fifty members present under the presidency of the Rev. T. G. Hammond. It was docidcd that the best wishes of the coninntte be conveyed to the chairman of the district (Rev. 11. L. Blamires), who is absent with the Fxpcditionarv Force as chaplain. The Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., was elected secretary of the Synod, and the Rev. W. B. Scott assistant secretary. with tho Rev. C. H. Olds, B A as journal secretary. Tho Rev. W. B. Scott was elected representative to the stationing committee, and the Rev. E. 0. Blamires substitute. The report of Mr L., 1,. Bassett, the secretary of church property, was received, and revealed a healthy state of church finance. The current income was £4520 19s sd, and the expenditure £sOll 16s 6d. Enlargements and minor improvements totalled £844 19s 4d, and the insurance upon Buildings £23,290. Two new sites were secured, one ehurcii and two schoolrooms being erected during the year. The Synod expressed its appreciation of the work of the secretary, and recommended his re-appoint-ment at tho ensuing conference. It was resolved to send the best wishes of tho Synod to the chairman, who is absent with the Expeditionary Force, also to Mrs Blamires. The Rev. J. J. Mather applied to become permanently supernumerary at the ensuing conference, which was unanimously granted. The Rev. L. Hudson applied to return to the active work, and the request was sustained. It was resolved that no alteration be made in tho present itinerary system.
