OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. For to-nig'nt only, the Royal Pictures at the Opera House, will put on a change of programme. Every picture is a gem and is sure to meet with the approval of all picture lovers. The star film “A Leak in the Foreign Office,” deals wit'u the secret service, and the production being by the famous Thanhouser Go., is sufficient guarantee, that it is good. The Imp Company present another powerful drama entitled, “A Strange Case.” hovers of comedy will be well catered for tonight, and roars of laughter are sure to | eventuate when'the Keystone’s “Tango; Tangle” comes on the screen. “Mike Murphy’s Dream,” “The Slumherville Scare,” and “A Dark Plot,” are all firstclass comedies. The Topical Budget shows the Gutty golf test—Braid. Taylo". Duncan, and Vardon, all test the gutty and rubber cored balls in a 36-hole match j at Sandy Lodge. “Internationa! La- ’ crosse,” and “Bob Sleighing” are all fine pictures. “The Torrents of Pan” is a ! delightful coloured scenic by the Gau- 1 mont Go. Other dramas, “The Compact,” and “The Thwarted Plot,” will hold the audience from start to finish. The Lyric Orchestra will play a now programme of latest musical gems. The continuous pictures at the Empress have now worn of their novelty and have settled down to a. solid, steady busiuesJ run, with most gratifying public patronage. George Waybourno and his inotner ace spending their holidays on the coast of Brittany, when George befriends Old Mark, the outcast fisherman, who in his gratitude promises to repay the boy’s kindness. One day George, who is popular with the children, to whom he had been reading “Robinson Crusoe,” goes with them to an island to act Robinson's adventures, 'A storm arises. All the children arc rescued save George, but Old Mark buds him unconscious on the rocks and restored him to his parents. MOUNTED RIFLES’ BALL.

Tho Queen Alexandra 2nd Mounted Rifles held their annual ball in the Drill Hall last evening, and the, function was declared to be one of the most successful ever bold in the Wanganui district, 'the hall was beautifully decorated with foliage and a great array‘of bunting. The decora‘.ions in the supper-room were also of a very attractive character. Messrs Dustin,s, Ltd., provided an excellent supper. The Quo n Alexandra Band, under Lieutenant G. Hackley, supplied splendid niu.ic. Lieutenant Buckley being afterwards congratulated bv the officers. The floor was in a splendid condition, and Lieut; ■nant Ivo Symes, Sergeant li. Morgan, and Sergeant A. B. Howie are to be congratulated on their most successful efforts as M’s.C. There were over 4(K) p.rc ent. ALEXANDRA. ASSRMBLY.

The Alexandra Assembly held their usual weekly dance—"long night"—in the Druids' Hail next Tuesday. Considerable interest is being taken in the waltzing competition to be held the same evening. . Three well-known gentlemen have consented to act as judges; a large number of entries liavc already been received. It is fully anticipated a large attendance will be present.
