We barn this morning that Mr Fred Pirani is proigre-sing towards convalescence as well as ran be expected, and that he has hopes of being about well and able again in a very few weeks.
Word has been rrcri'ed from Mr JJ. Toogood, who was appointed to the position of resident engineer to the Paten Harbour Hoard at its me,-ling on Monday la-t. that he row cannot accept tile position. It i- stated iluii Mr Toogood had accepted au offer to contest the Christchurch North s-at agaimt the sitting member, Mr 1.. M. Isitt.
