TRIBUTES IN HOUSE OF COMMONS: Press Association—Telegraph—Copyright ‘ LONDON, July 7. Mr Asquith, in the House of Commons, said Mr Chamberlain was the pioneer of a new generation. No statesman at anv time surpassed him in confidence and courage. Mr Bonar Law said two principles were at the basis of Mr, Chamberlain’s political action, viz., a desire to improve the people’s condition, and an almost aggressive national pride. Mr Balfour said that as Colonial Secretary Mr Chamberlain had done tin greatest work which norhaps had eve: fallen to a single British statesman. He was a groat idealist and ho had an unconquerable soul. He was a great statesman, friend, orator, and a great man. Tributes were also paid in the Hous of Lords. NEW ZEALAND’S SYMPATHY ACKNOWLEDGED. WELLINGTON, July 7. , The following cable message has boon received by the Premier from Mrs Chamberlain, in reply to his cable of sympathy; “Mr Massey,—l thank tin New Zealand Government and people from my heart for their sympathy.— Mary Chamberlain.”
