SOMERVILLE SHIELD. WANGANUI CLUB. A challenge race in the Wanganui shed as t > which crow should represent the shed in this event was decided last evening, and resulted in a great race, in which the challenge, crew .won by a canvas from the selected team. The race was decided ovci>a course from the brewery to Hatrick’s wharf, Aramnho. The crews were as follows: —Challenge—G. Marshall (str.), H. Jones (7), E. Gilbert (6), K. Jones (5), G. Barton (4). A. Murphy (2), 11. Callaghan (2), P. Faber (bow), F. Laugridge (cox). Selected—F. Banks (str.), H. Northover (7). H. 'Whiting- (6), 0. Krogmann (5), E. McDonald (4), R. Collier (.2), E. Morgan (2), L. M. Isitt. (bow). E. McDonald rowed in place: of Smart, who was absent from town. In. a’l probability the challenge crew' as it now' stands will represent the Wanganui club in Saturday’s race for the shield. ’ UNION CREW. In I he Union club crew (the holders of the shield), S. Dustin replaces C. Ryland, who has found it impossible with so many rigat'a calls on liis time to devote tlia necessary time to training.
