Upokongaro Ferry. ,

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Allow me space in your valuable columns to. draw attention to the disgraceful state of> the approaches to the Upokongaro Ferry, which at the present time are a source of danger to vehicular traffic. The ferry is under the control of the Wanganui County Council, and this body has sadly neglected its duty_ since the ferry has been under its jurisdiction. I have’ had occasion to use the ferry for. the last 30 years ,and have never known it to be in such a bad state as at the present time. It is small wonder that the Mangawhero Road Board objects .to the amalgamation of the Road Board into the County when they see the County neglecting a vital matter like the above. What are we to expect from them when they take the management of the Board over altogether ? While the ferry was under the control of the Mangawhero Road Board it was kept in a good state of repair, and when the ratepayers had men on the County Council like Messrs D. Mason, Speed, and Ross to look after their interests there waS no need for complaint in matters like the one I have referred to. Trusting the matter will receive the prompt attention : of tthe County Council,—l am etc., RATEPAYER. September 21, 1912.
