FOOTBALL.

18011™ ISLAND (19) DEFEATS SOUTH { ISLVND (9). i •: . i : (Per United Press Association.) !' . . WELLINGTON, October 7. IThe annual fixture, North Island v South Island, was decided to-day in summer weather. The conditions of play were dead against football. A hot sun shone dqring the afternoon, and the field was veiry hard. The southerners were outclassed, in the minor sense. The northerners’ rearguard appeared to have more scoring material tljan their opponents’. Scott drew' first bjpod for the South team with a goal from a penalty. Grace altered tho state o| affairs by brilliant try, which Eawiri converted. Eyland placed another to the credit of the North, and shortly; afterwards Lynch scored South’s first try half-way through the spell, Scott missing the goal, and the spell ended soon after. At. the start of the second half, Bangi Wilson touched down for the North, Eawiri converting. 13—6. Lynch later scored for the South, and Wilson for the North, neither effort being converted. Towards the end of the gantq, Desmond added another try to uie northerners’ score. The kick at goal missed, and the game ended—North Island 19, South Island 9.
