HOCKEY.

WELLINGTON DEFEATS HAWKE'S BAT. The third shield game of the present ■■■cason took place on the No. 1 ground at Day’s Bay on Saturday afternoon, when Wellington (the present holders) defeated Hawke’s Bay by the narrow margin of 3 goals to 2. Although not so exciting as the Canterbury match (says the N.Z, Times) three weeks ago, it was a better exhibition of hockey and more enjoyable. The day was perfect, and the ground being in excellent condition was all in favour of fast play. As in previous games, Wellington were again losing at half-time, bv 2 goals to nil. but within fifteen minutes after the change over they had registered 3 goals and obtained the lead, which they maintained to the end.
