Colonel Sylvostrc, Spanish commandant, grossly insulted Lieutenant Thiriet, French instructor of the Aloorish forces, outside Alcazar, when he had the lieutenant arrested and brought under escort to him. Lieut. Thiriet was ultimately released. SPANISH EXPLANATION. MADRID, July 22. Colonel Sylvostrc alleges that Lieut. Thiriet boxed a Spanish corporal’s ears. A lieutenant of Spanish cavalry thereupon invited Lieutenant Thiriet to visit Colonel Sylvestre to explain the affair. THE BOIBBET INCIDENT. PARIS, July 22. Colonel Sylvestre, apologising to Boisset, states that he, imprisoned the principal offender in connection with the incident. BRITAIN'S ATTITUDE. Speech by Mr. Lloyd* George. LONDON, July 22. The. Right Hon. Lloyd George, speaking at the. Lord Mayor of London’s banquet to bankers, without specially naming any Power, emphatically declared that where vital interests were concerned Britain would not allow herself to he treated as if she was of no account in the Cabinet of nations. Berlin newspapers reproduce Mr Lloyd George's statement under headlines “For whom is the warning meant.” The Lokal Anziegcr says it is scarcely permissible to attribute •to Mr Llovd George the intention of interfering with the Franco-German negotiations, which are secret. He is incapable of such an indiscretion.
