When, after leaving St. Helier's, the mail steamer Roebuck, struck, one hundred and forty passengers were breakfasting. The tremendous shock swept crockery and food from the table. The deck near the bows was soon level with the water’s edge, and .the forecastle was flooded. There was no panic. The passengers and mails were quickly rescued.
