ATHLETIC.

BY "VICTOR."

In answer to a query as to the best ♦ ime registered over 120 yds flat in Australasia, I may state that Tom Malone is credited with having covered the dibtance in llj seconds at Stawell (Victoria) in ISB4. That is the a-ccepted Australasian record for the distance, but it might be mentioned that W. Clarke in 1886 covered 123 yards in 11^, a perlormance which is really a shade better than Malone'b. Then Ed. Skinner, the American runner, ran 125 yards at Botany (N.S.W.) in 12 seconds, in 1889, while A. B. Postle did even better, as he got over 126 yards in 12 seconds at Maryborough, Victoria, and consequently must have run the first 120 yards under 11£ seconds — aMlone's record.
