RISE IN PRICE OF NEWCASTLE COAL.

Rumoured General Strik". (Per United Pres^ Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. Several coal-merchants met this morning, and in view of the fact that stocks are beginning to run .short, decided to increase the price of Newcastle coal 3s per ton. It was explained that thio was being done in view of the check orders, with which morchants had been rushed. State coal would not \w affected by the increase. Still there are rumours in the city that there is likely to be a general strikei in New Zealand next week, but no definite news is available. A telegram from the manager of the Blackball mine says that things are quiet there, and there is no ill feeling with the men.
