The King has awarded a in sl-elass Edward modal to Joseph Davis lor his act of biavery in the Bendigo mine on July lGth. The Gazette states thai the action was exceptionally bravo, a-> Davis knew an explosion was imminent. While Davis was working in the Bendigo mine, one of his companions, a miner named Allen, fell fiom Iho platform to the bottom oi the shaft. Notwithstanding that two chargo^ had just been put in, and were expected to explode at any moment, Davis descended and dragged Allen, wljo-c- leg- w,,-, broken, t" «i plrt< <-• »i ndh-ty, until relief came. Both men had a miraculous escape, as the charge exploded within a few it-el ot them.
