THURSDAY SHIELD.
Melrose and Kia Toa ripened the Thursday competitions yesterday, when the former were victorious. The game (':) was very rough, two men being ordered off for iigbtiiig. If Thursday players cannot indulge in ix game ot football without all— feeling, wo would advise the Uuiou to consider the advisability of putting a stop to the competitions.
The Manawatu Rugby Union has agreed to play a representative match against tV Awarua Union (a sub-Un'on of the Wanganiii Union) at Palmerston North on July 21st. An interesting game was played on the College grounds yesterday afternoon between the school team and a team made up of Old Boys augmented by four of the school seconds. 'The first spell was particularly fast and ended with the scores even. Old Boys had a- more tired feeling in the •second half and School playing a very pretty game, had somewhat the best of it. The game ended in favour of the School by 13 to 11. A boy's overcoat, with a college cap in the pocket, was found on the fence on the Rec. after last Saturday's games, and may be had on application to Mr G. Spriggens. It is understood that the members of a local club team, when approached re tho loan of some jerseys for the rep. team which played Rangitikci recently, objected to lending the jerseys unless given free passes.
