A wooden building used as a boa^diughouse at San Francisco during re-birlding operationts, accommodating 300 labourers, wae destroyed by tire. Many thrilling and distressing scenes were vitnessed. 200 of the inmates leapt from the windows in their night attire. 50 were :>urnt to death, and ir.auy received broken limbs.
