(By Telegraph — Special /to Hjhmld.) • ■ . < AKAROA April 2. There has been splendid water lately for the scullers. Fogwell and Arnsthave been doing the course in the -morning and putting in shorter and faster work in the afternoon's. Yesterday Fogwell, rowing at the rate of 26, sculled one and three-quar-ter miles in llmin 4sec. A mishap to the seat of Whelch's boat necessitates the Akaroa man using Webb's skiff. Whelch rows in a 281 b boat, while Fog-well's skiff weighs 271 b. Whelch and his pacer (W. Webb) covered a mile and a quarter yesterday in 7min 40sec, Whelch being in hia new boat. This time is a shade slower than when he made a previous attempt in Webb's boat. Whelch now scales 9.12, and looks well. The Mararoa runs an excursion from Lyttelton to Akaroa on Easter Monday. The course has not yet been surveyed, but it is a good three and a quarter miles. The race promises to be a big affair, and there is likely to be a large attendance. Arnst is competing in a pigeon shooting championship contest on the ]sth inst.
