INSPECTOR OF AWARDS v. G. CUTELLI.
This was a charge of employing a boy for more than three months on probation, without his being indentured. — A plea of not guilty was entered. Mr Gordon appeared for defendant. The latter admitted that .the boy had been in his employ for over three months and was not indentured, but stated that he had secured an indenture paper ; had had it filled in by the secretary of the Bakers' Union, but that, thinking it was no use without the signature of the lad's father, had handed it to the boy to send to his father in Christchurch for signature. He believed the indenture had been forwarded to Christchurch, but had not since seen it, as ihe boy left shortly afterwards without giving notice, and had not since put in an appearance. — The Court decided that defendant was responsible for the failure to indenture, but under the circumstances only a nominal penalty would be inflicted —a fine of ,£l.
