Hastings Fruit G row ers Association.

HASTINGS, March 31.

The Fruifc Growers' Association, at a meeting, resolved: — (1) lhat the Association strongly protests against Mr W. F. Massey'a, M.P., and Mr Marsh's (Auckland) statements that it is useless to attempt to cope successfully with the codlin pest, as the Association assures them that, by following the Department's instruction, crops are saved; (2) it is the opinion of the Association that the present regulations of the Department governing the importation of fruit from fruit fly infected districts should be .rigidly enforced, and that every shipment of fruit be carefully inspected, and, if a trace of grub be found, the shipment be destroyed, :«fcd-- 7 fufvhsr; "that 'the"regwhrti»ns extend to the inspection of all trees from infected districts, as we fully recognise that when the fly is once firmly established the fruit industry of New Zealand will be doomed."
