The Godley Statue

CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. Owing to the erection of a tramway shelter shed and sanitary conveniences in the centre of Cathedral Square, the statue of J. R. Godley, founder of the Province, ha» been so obscured that its removal to a better site is deemed necessary. At last night's meeting of the City Council a letter was received from the Anglican Cathedral Chapter, offering a site for the stattie in the Cathedral grounds. • The , reserves committee recommended the acceptance of the site. Considerable discussion followed, regret being expressed that the Council had ever allowed the shelter shed to be erected and so disfigure the Square, but the recommendation was adopted.
