CYCLING.
A letter received in Sydney recently from O. H. Brook, the N.S.W. champion, now in Europe, gives some interesting particulars of the racing there. Regarding his own doings, the Sydneyite states that he was placed third on August 12th in an invitation scratch race, to Ellegaard and Bader. Brook and an Italian rider got a break on the field, and nearly scored the victory. Rutt, Benyon, Reynolds, and Friol were taking part. Anderson, the Danish rider, who visited Australia with Ellegaard, has taken to pace following and was placed third in a 10 miles event on August 12th. Ellegaard and Rutt won the tandem race.
According to Brooks' letter Taylor is now riding in great form. In Paris, the negro rode a match with Friol (winner of the World's Championship) and won easily, and a week previously he also defeated Ellegaard in a special match. It is therefore eviaent that the negro has recovered all his old-time form, for Friol ranks as the next best rider in the world to Frank Kramer. Good judges predicted early in the negro's present tour, when he was being beaten by second-raters, that he would beat everyone barring Kramer before he concluded his tour. Taylor has many friends in Australia, who will be pleased to h-ar of his improved form. Brook states that he will be back in Sydney on October 21st. He also says that Walter Butt is coming out to Australia for next season's racing here, and will probably arrive in November.
