Police and Civilians Searching for the Murderer.
Reign of Terror Amongst Resi-
dents in District.
SIDNEY, July 17.
There are indications that Brown intended to remove the bodies, but was interrupted by the arrival of the young O'Keefes.
The police from all the surrounding districts and many civilians are engaged in the search for Brown, who is stated to possess a rifle. It is reported that he is hiding on an island in the middle of the Richmond river. The police are closely watching and intend to throughly search it. Another rumour is to the effect that the murderer has been seen seventeen miles from the scene of the tragedy.
Residents throughout the district are in a state of great fear. Many are too frightened to go to bed. Brown ifl described as a great reader of the Deadwood Dick style of literature.
