Tho Russians apparently abandoned Ticling without serious resistance, after burning the station and other Russian buildings. ' They arc retreating' to Katiyuen, 25 miles north. It is believed in St. Petersburg that a large part of General Linievilch's force is still eastwards, and being vigorously pursued. It is also stated that the Japanese arc already north of General Kuropatkin. When ,the Eussian retreat from Mukden began the Cossacks indulged in the wildest excesses. They looted the city, murdering several Europeans and iiring numerous buildings. Order was only restored when the Japan ssd entered.
