EDUCATION BOARD.
The Board resumed this morning. MARTON.—On the motion of Mr Spurdle, it was resolved that the question of appointing a teacher be jield over pending the receipt of the new District High School Regulations, or until a special meeting of the Board be held on December 6th, at 2 p.m. It was also resolved, on the motion of Mr Pirani, that the Marton Committee be asked to supply the names of pupils who will attend the District High School during next year, and the standards to which they belong; and that the Committee be requested to state whether they will take over their responsibilities in connection with the school grounds and buildings from the Ist Jnauary next. PALMERSTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.—Mr Pirani reported as follows:—"I beg to report that at a meeting of the School Committees of Palmerston North, it was decided to agree to the suggestion that a District High School be established nominally in connection with the College Street School, providing that the classes be held in a separate building. I would recommend that a conference be held by a representative of the Board with the Secretary for Education in regard to the erection of, the necessary buildingsi and that in the meantime' authority be given to engage a' building for the High School classes, which would then be commenced directly after the holidays. The chairman was deputed to interview the Minister of Education on the subject, and Mr Pirani was authorised to engage a'temporary building if he could arrange suitable terms.
BOARD MEETING.—It was decided that the next meeting - of the Board' be hold on 16th December, at 11.45 a.m. SELECTION COMMITTEE. —"Mr Baker gave notice of the following motion:—That the Board's resolution instituting a permanent' Committee called the "Selection Committee," be rescinded.
COLLEGE STREET.—It was decided to advertise for an assistant graduate at .£225 per annum.
BOYS' SCHOOL.—Mr Jas.' Aitken, headmaster of the Boys' District High School, wrote asking the Board to apply to the Government for a grant under the Manual and Technical Instruction Act, for the purpose of building and furnishing a workshop in connection with "the School. ' It -was proposed to erect a building in line with the "present shelter shed in_jthe play--ground, and if that were done a good opportunity would offer for enlarging the shed, which on some occasions is found to be quite inadequate to the necessities of the School. " The building was estimated to cost about XSO, and the tools. —The matter was referred 'to the Building Committee, to confer .with the Inspector.
