WANGANUI AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
The Two Days' Show.
Commencing To-morrow on
the Racecourse.
Everything is well forward for tho Show, commencing to-morrow, and all that is wanted is fine weather to ensure its success. Visitors - are constantly arriving from all parts North and South, and it is anticipated that the crowd on the Wanganui J.C. Course will be a record one.
At a meeting of the Committee held yesterday the following new members were, elected:—J. Handley, jun., A. T. White, C. L. Duigan; James Hogg, James Morgan, and John Hammond. Mr Cumminß reported that he was in communication with the Premier re his proposed visit, and it was decided that" the matter be left in the hands of the deception Committee.
The secretary reported re the erecttion of new sheep and«cattle pens, also as to the provision made for police supervision and clearing of course. '
It was resolvgd that the admission to the grand-stand be one shilling, that a woman be employed for the ladies' cloak-room, that a night watchman be engaged, and that the Wanganui Garrison Band play on both Show days. It having been decided that another judge be appointed for the jumping, it was-further resolved that Mr Mcßae be asked to accept the position, and Mr Aldworth was appointed reserve .judge.
Mr Cummins reported that he had to engage extra tent accommodation for housing produce, and his action was endorsed.
The following senior stewards were appointed:—Messrs E. B. Hibbard, horses; T. Hall, draught horses;- C. Perrett ,cattle; G. S.Robertson, sheep; J. T. Sinclair, poultry and dogs; T. D. Cummins, produce; J. Dempsey, pigs; J. T. Sinclair, implements; E. Perrett, guessing competition tickets.; J. B. Murray, slaughtering; T. D. Cummin's, reception.
The following are the times, for judging:—First _ day (to-morrow). —9 a.m.: Sheep, pigs, harness, carriages, farm implements, and wool. 10 "a.m.: Horses. 1.30 p.m.: Driving competition. 2to 4 p.m.: Leaping competitions. 3 p.m.: Cattle, class 36. - Produce and home industries will be judged on the second day (Thursday).
The' following generous reference to th Wanganui Agricultural Show is from the Manawatu Standard:—On Wednesday and Thursday next the Wanganui Agricultural annual Show will be held on the local racecourse. The extension of this fixture to two days is a sensible step on the part of the Committee, and we are pleased to see that the large incresac in the entries has to a. great extent fully justified the step in advance taken. There is plenty of room on the Coast' for a "real live institution like the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association has shown itself to'be of late years, and we have no doubt but that the public will show their appreciation of tho great efforts being made to cater for their entertainment, imusrnientandinstruction, by making a record attendance on Thursday next, the people's day at tho Show.
