THE REGENT BUSH FIRES.
(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, March 4. The Surveyor-General has promised that gras3 seed shall be distributes to the Biifferers by tho bush fires befora the end of tho month. It will be sent to the nearest railway station. Promissory notes, at one, two, and thrae years, bearng no into.est or discount will be accepted for the value of the seed. The Commissioner of Lands has obtained very full reports of the lossos and requirements in seed of the settlers in the | Pahiatua district. The fire destroyed 42 dwellings, 13 whares, 59 outbuildings, 1 church," 1 creamery, 1 sawmill, 9288 acres of grass, 13,Q78 chains of fencing, 10,449 Blieep, 7 cows, 1 fool, 3 pigs. Total loss £20,000. Insurances £4,938.
