Charges against Christchurch Constables.
Sergeant Wiight.clerk in the Inspector's Offioo, Wellington, was next examined, but his evidence was not important. James Annushaw,labourer,but formerly a bar attendant in Christchurch, was than examined. He described that in certain hotels in Christchurch there was a system of oleotrie bells in connection with Sunday trading, and it gave great satisfaction in announcing ths approach of the police. The witness alleged that the police were at times served with free refreshments outside of hours, in return for services rendered. Witness did not suggest that the whole of the police foice of Christchurch oould bo bribed with liquor. During tho proceedings Mr Taylor lodged a charge against Constables Bamett and McKenzie, of Christchurch, of having frequented public houses in that city, and it is poosiblo Annuaha.v will be summoned to go south with the Board.
