THE A. & P ASSOCIATION'S FROZEN SHEEP.

The report on the sheep killed at the last A. and F. Show, and, sent Home through the Wanganui Meat Freezing Company, is anything bat a satisfactory one or creditable'to the distriot. It would be surprising indeed if it were otherwise, as the sheep were killed in the open air daring a downpour of rain, and carted from the show ground to the Caßtleclin" train in the wet, the natural resalt . being that the carcases were more or less soiled, «nd the natural "bloom" of well-dressed, healthy carcases destroyed. Under suoh adverse circumstances, it was a great mistake to send them to London as a sample o£ prize freezers from Wanganui. It would hare been far better to hare sold them locally instead of courting suoh an adverse report ai that published yesterday, which is certainly not oaloulated to improve the reputation of Wanganni bred sheep in the London frozen meat market. Had the sheep in question been killed at the works under cover, and sent Home free from the faults pointed out by Nelson Bros, in their report, they would have been a credit to the district, and brought top prices ; as it is they were a disgrace to the place, and oaloulated to damage its reputation as a meat freezing centre. The Freezing Company is, as a rule, very particular as to the qnality and condition of the sheep passing through its chamber!, and rejects fearlessly any that are not, in the opinion of their Manager, equal to the required standard, but the carcases of the prize sheep sent Home from the latt Wanpanui A. and P. B how must have been differently treated in this respect, otherwise they would have bten promptly rejected as damaged by rain, and therefore unfit for freezing purposes. Why this was not done we are at a loss to understand, as it is the first instance that has come under our notioe of carcases being admitted into the freezing chambers at Castlccliff that should have been rejected as damaged. When people go to the trouble and expense of sending the carcases of prize sheep to London for a speoial report theraon, they should take care that they are properly dressed, and that no damage is don* to them by ruin or other preventible cause, as it is worse than folly to send Home cercasas in suoh bad condition as thoie specially reported on by Nelion Bros.
