Re Ocesn Mail Servicos —The Post Office has bees uuablo to airango for a Bpecial intercolonial BL'i'ricj to connect n ith the Federal steamers ut Melbourno. Mails for trans mission by the Fedoral steamer will leave tho Bluff on tho Ifridny following the departure of the 'Frisco mail from Auckland with replies to lottors received by the previous week's San Francisco mail from nearly every part of the colony. Advantage will also be taken of ateamerj from Wellington and Auckland for Sydney. Mails will also be dispatched by direct steamers whenever there ii a certainty that they will reach London as early as if sent by tbe Federal sorvioa. Correspondence will also be sent weekly for the Federal steamers if specially addressed. With regard to inward mails, the London Post Office will send by Federal service correspondence posted during the first wd second weeks following tho departure of the San Franciaco mail, unloss specially addressed to go by Federal service or by some other route. Tho public will be timely advised of the despatch of mails by the Federal service and direct steamers, and also of the probable dateß of arrival in the colony of mails by the Federal service. AUCKLAND. January 18. The Council of tho Chamber of Commerce recommended that the exhibits to bo sent from New Zealand to the World's Fair at Chicago should consist principally of the staples articles of the country, and that the exhibition be in tho name of the Colony, and not separately for each provincial district, the funds to be provided by the Government. The party who propose to travel over the Stratford railway route left Auckland today, going by train to Te Kuiti. They expect to reach Stratford by Sunday'next. The Hon A. J. On Saturday a little girl named Rose Irene Wilson, aged 15 months, daughter of a farmer at Southbridgo, got hold of some of Cooper's sheep dip powders and swallowed them, and died from tho effects. NEW PLYMOUTH. January 18. Motcalfo, arrested on a warrant from Wellington for failing to support his wife, again appeared. The complainant, who is in Wellington, was not represented. The Magistrate instructed the police to wire to Wellngton with reference to proving the charge, and adjourned the case till Monday next. Metcalfe w»b liberated on his own recognisance.
