MR THATCHER AND THEe CHRONICLE.

4 TO THE EDITOR, Sib,— Will you kindly insert the following - letter written to the editor of the Chronicle, and accepted by one of the staff for insertion, but afterwards suppressed, and much oblige yours &c, T. Thatchek. TO" THE EDITOR OP THE CHRONICLE. Sie,-#-You were grossly misinformed in stating I had the slightest intimation the County Council intended to elect me chairman on + he 27th November. Your imputation that I held the chair for a week for the .•mipnpsfi of sitting on the Harbor Board has chairmau in my absence, I was compclujato" hold the office till a fresh chairmau could be elected. My offence in your eyes seems to have been that during the time I was obliged to hold office I endeavored to do my duty. Probably had I voted as you wished on the "private practice question," you would have, with your usual justicp, accorded me commendation instead of censure. — I am &c. T. Thatcher. Dee 14, 1883.

The second concert of the Waverley Harmonic Society comes off on Friday evening nexfc, the performance, as formerly, being a miscellaneous one. A capital programme has been arranged, consisting of songs, duets, choruses, etc., and sevex'al performers, new to the local stage, are expected to appear, from whom great things are anticipated. The next essay of the Society will be a bolder one, as they have decided to give the Messiah, and as it numbers amongst its members several capable vocalists, the oratorio should be put on very fairly. A picnic of members of the society has, been arranged for Boxing Day, to be held on Messrs Howie Bro's property, at Strathmore, and as there is everything necessary for a day's outing of the kind, a good time is expected. ,;
